2022 Oklahoma Legislative Session Recap for REALTORS®

Our legislative team looked a little bit different this year and as luck (and very good skills) would have it, the people on our team made it a successful legislative session in 2022 for the REALTORS®. As we have all said before, it takes a village to run this association (and sometimes a vineyard) and this year was no different than any other year we have had. It was all about a team effort.

The 2022 team consisted of myself, Will Roberts, Geoffrey Long, Will Gattenby (OAR staff) all teamed up with our volunteer Gov Affairs Chair, Shonna Barber and our contract lobbyist, Jerrod Shouse. Plus, of course, our OAR Government Affairs Committee of made of up of thirty of our members. We are a force to be reckoned with.

We didn’t run any priority legislation this year, but played defense in an extraordinary way. Our tracking sheet embedded here was a constant work in progress. Here are the bills that we advocated for and against, defeated and championed into law (organized by a nickname or short description because we know you don’t really care that much about the bill numbers and official titles, just the highlights):

  • Roof bill (insurance claims and filing requirement timeframes)

  • Tenant Repairs Cap

  • Unnecessary standardizing and additions to real estate contract forms

  • Super tight turnaround timeframes for contingencies in real estate contracts
Thank you, Representative Kannady, for working with us on this.

  • Unruly abstracting requirements

  • Exceptions for certain individuals not requiring a license to sell real estate

  • Provisional licensing for criminals

  • Etc. Etc. See our policy agenda on our website.
