The podcast is important and it’s back.

This is the teaser video, you can listen to the full podcast episode, via the link below the article.

The state association has had a very successful podcast since 2018, with over 200 episodes. I was fortunate to have two talented co-hosts produce the show in the past few years. Unfortunately, those co-hosts have moved on from the association this past December, to pursue some significant opportunities in their professional careers. Therefore, I am back to the drawing board for the direction of the Talking Real podcast and who, particularly, will take on the host(s) role, all while I am keeping it going simultaneously. So you get me, hosting this highly-rated podcast, hoping I don’t run it into the ground.

First, let me say that I am a control freak, not a podcaster.

The come-back episode was published Tuesday, January 17, 2023, and is linked below. Tuesdays are the typical day we launch podcasts, and you can count on it every other Tuesday in 2023, with a few extra episodes popping up in between. The goal is to bring a true signal to the podcast (literally and figuratively) rather than just noise about nothing. There will continue to be valuable information about the industry issues that our members face and what is on the horizon legislatively while also bringing in some details about what is happening at the state association. We have to pepper in a few announcements and talk about the events. However, the purpose of this podcast is NOT to be a suffocating audiocast of two “talking heads” rambling on about announcements and inviting you to monthly networking luncheons. That is just plain boring, and we will lose our listeners quickly.

So here is the initial plan for the first quarter of 2023 for the Talking Real podcast show, brought to you by the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS®. I will take on the co-host responsibility, with Will Gattenby, for the interim. However, remember… I am not a podcaster, so there will be “ums and uhs,” just go with it and know that my intentions are pure. We will have special guests, such as our 2023 association president (Julie Smith from Owasso, Oklahoma) and likely a few other members of the volunteer leadership and staff senior management teams. There will be a minimum of two episodes per month, with a lot of it focused on legislative updates in the first and second quarters of the year. The Oklahoma Legislature is in session from the first Monday in February through the last Friday in May.

Speaking of legislative updates, a long time ago, we hosted a weekly legislative update video (Capitol Insider), and those videos were definitely “talking head” style. Plus, they were slightly dull. While I have thought about bringing that series back, I have instead decided to push the government affairs team at OAR to conduct a weekly zoom call with which any of our members can join and interact. A weekly YouTube post becomes stagnant quickly; we want the freshest information to live on the interwebz. So we are holding off (for now) on returning the Capitol Insider videos and instead sticking with the Talking Real podcast.

So, there are multiple ways to get your legislative update fix, but I encourage you to subscribe to the OAR Talking Real Podcast first. Give it a listen, and feel free to share your feedback.

Until then, see you next time, or next Tuesday when we publish.
